Gerald
Gerald the house light was just like any normal light. One day Gerald thought “You know what? - I’m going to make something of myself.” All the other lights laughed and told Gerald “The chances of actually making it out there are slim. Just hang out with us. We’re house lights and we go on in the evening and that’s just the way it is.”
But what’s the worst that could happen? I could end up a street light. That’s not so bad. If I fall in with the wrong crowd I might get into disco. But when you think of the lifetime of a normal house light, why not chance ending up a street light?
It is one year later now.
All of the other lights have long went ‘Ping!’
Without warning, light travels light years into space. It cannot maintain the speed of darkness. When light and dark become unequal, the barrier where light and dark meet is pierced.
Darkness pushes in, light rushes out. Darkness is fulfilled.
Gerald doesn’t have this worry.
Gerald will not be luminous forever.
Gerald is content.
